* Student congress is a larger event in comparison to policy debate. It involves typically 15-30 getting together into a "Chamber" and electing a "Presiding Officer." The students will proceed to decide what legislation they wish to debate, and the PO will allow students to give speeches in affirmation or negation of whatever legislation is on the floor. After enough students have given speeches, the chamber will vote to pass or reject the presented legislation.

While students interested in a future in politics obviously have a lot to gain from this event it also teaches public speaking skills and civic education which is useful to all students.
* In Kansas, congress is mainly held in the spring during the Forensics season, while Missouri hosts congress year-round. Luckly through DebateKC your students will have plenty of opportunities to participate in Congressional Debate.
